Legal Law

A Journey of Growth and Discovery

This Law School Experience has been shared anonymously.

Hello! I am a passionate law student at Christ Academy Institute of Law in Bengaluru, currently pursuing BBA LLB. As I sit down to pen this reflection, I am overwhelmed by the myriad of experiences that have shaped my law school journey.

From participating in moot court competitions to interning with esteemed legal professionals, and from engaging in student organizations to overcoming academic challenges, every moment has contributed to my growth. Here’s a glimpse into my unique law school odyssey, filled with invaluable lessons and unforgettable memories.

Academic Experiences

From the very beginning, the academic landscape at Christ Academy was both challenging and inspiring. One class that left a lasting impact on me was Criminal Law, taught by Assistant Professor Subhajeet. His dynamic teaching style, incorporating real-world case studies and engaging discussions, brought the subject to life.

I vividly remember a particular session, where he beautifully taught us the difference between culpable homicide and murder, which most law students get confused with. This class not only deepened my understanding of criminal law but also sparked my passion for litigation on the criminal side.

Throughout my academic journey, several professors played pivotal roles in shaping my legal perspective. Professor Sini, Assistant Professor Manjula, and many more are also there, under whose mentorship, I have been able to grow so much and reach where I stand today, they inspire me a lot each day.

They encouraged me to think critically and approach problems from multiple angles, significantly enhancing my research and analytical skills.

Extracurricular Engagements

One of the most enriching aspects of my law school experience has been my involvement in moot court competitions. The thrill of preparing for a moot court case and presenting the arguments before a panel of judges was unparalleled.

I have done various moots on aspects of Constitutional law, Criminal law, and other special laws as well.

My team’s victory in the National Level Moot Court Competition, conducted by BMS College of Law, Bengaluru, was a testament to our hard work and collaboration. This experience honed my legal research, public speaking, and argumentation skills.

I have also been honoured to receive the Best Researcher award and Best Speaker award in an intra-moot court competition at our institute.

As the Treasurer of the Student’s Bar Association of my college, I managed funds and organized various events, which enhanced my leadership and organizational abilities. My role as Co-convener of the Sports Committee and member of the Environmental Law Committee allowed me to contribute to the community in meaningful ways.

Nonetheless, volunteering at the Christ Academy Institute of Law National Moot Court Competition provided insights into the logistical and organizational aspects of legal events, further broadening my skill set.

Personal Growth

Law school has been a journey of immense personal growth. The skills I have acquired, both legal and soft skills, are invaluable. Rigorous academic work and practical experiences have sharpened my legal research, drafting, and argumentation skills.

Balancing academics with extracurricular activities was challenging, but it taught me crucial time management and stress resilience skills.

One particularly challenging period was during the preparation for the moot court competition while simultaneously handling academic assignments. The pressure was intense, but I developed a routine, practiced mindfulness, and sought support from friends and mentors.

Overcoming these obstacles has made me more resilient and better prepared for future challenges.

Developing a professional network has been a cornerstone of my law school experience. Internships with various esteemed advocates and organizations provided practical experience and helped me build professional relationships.

Interning under Senior Advocate Nikhil Gupta involved attending virtual client meetings and conducting legal research on complex cases.

These experiences were invaluable in understanding the practical application of legal principles. Interning under another Senior Advocate, Om Shanker Shrivastava gave me exposure to environmental law.

Attending online hearings of the National Green Tribunal and preparing case briefs on environmental matters broadened my perspective on pressing environmental issues.

Each internship not only enhanced my legal knowledge but also helped me build a network of mentors and peers in the legal field. As I near the end of my law school journey, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences, challenges, and growth I have encountered.

Law school has not only equipped me with legal knowledge and skills but also shaped my character and career aspirations.

The blend of academic rigor, extracurricular involvement, and practical experiences has been instrumental in my development as a law student and future legal professional. The key takeaways from my journey are resilience, the importance of a supportive network, and the value of practical experience.

These experiences have solidified my aspiration to pursue a career in law.

I look forward to continuing this journey, armed with the lessons and insights gained from my time at Christ Academy Institute of Law.

Note to other law students

To fellow law students, my advice is to embrace every opportunity, seek out challenges, and build a strong support network. Engage actively in classes, participate in moot courts, and take up internships that align with your interests.

Balancing academics with extracurricular activities can be tough, but it is crucial for holistic development. Remember to take care of your mental health and seek help when needed. Law school is not just about acquiring knowledge, it’s about growing as an individual and preparing for the challenges of the legal profession.
