Anker has had some fantastic releases in the previous year, particularly in their product lineup for chargers. Now, most chargers are bricks that plug into a power strip or outlet or are power strips with mediocre built-in USB-A or USB-C ports, at least until now. Anker has recently introduced the Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station. This charger impressively expands on the frequently seen charging brick in a few incredibly beneficial ways, but more later.

This charging station is one of the more unique ones I have tested because The Prime 6-in-1 has two AC outlets built into the thin frame, and it has a cable with a 5ft detachable cord, instantly giving an extension cord worth of usability all in this iPhone-sized unit.

A Charging Station to Rule Them All

I’ll be honest: I was immediately figuring out how to integrate this charger into my workflow. At first glance, this charger was a weird in-between charger that wouldn’t find a purpose in my everyday carry gear bag nor replace anything at any of my desks or workstations. It took me about a week and a half to fully understand the benefits and value of the Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station.

Some background: I have a backpack with all my gear for my jam-packed schedule. This backpack has chargers, cables, a mouse, a multitool, an external SSD, adapters, Airtag, and portable chargers. I have built out this bag over years of testing gear and trying out the best of the best. I was confident that I had everything I could need while also keeping everything slim enough to fit in a lighter bag, so I didn’t mind toting it around with me everywhere I went in a day.

However, after a week of thinking about this charging station, I noticed that I could replace one of the charging bricks I carried daily and benefit from having a charger like this in my bag. When I realized the potential gains, I immediately swapped some things around in my bag, and the Anker Prime 6-in-1 has been a staple ever since.

Sleek and Minimal, yet Robust and Powerful

The Anker Prime 6-in-1 is a compact multi-plug charger. It can output 140W across the six available ports. These ports are split into two USB-A, two USB-C, and two AC ports. What’s fascinating is that, because the unit is thinner than a standard AC outlet plug, as I plug in the outlet, the socket pops out towards the plug to cover the metal prongs entirely. This helps keep the overall device slim while also being able to accept AC plugs safely.

In addition to these uniquely designed AC ports, two USB-C ports can individually reach 140W, and two USB-A ports can reach 12W. When multiple ports are used simultaneously, the total wattage output reduces slightly. However, if all four ports are utilized simultaneously, the USB-C ports will still output 65W for one, 60W for another, and the two USB-A ports will output 15W each.

In addition to the impressive port options, this charging station has another trick. Instead of plugging into and extruding off of a socket as many charging solutions do, this charging station has a five-foot cable that plugs into the socket with a 45-degree angled flat head plug that can fit just about anywhere, then extending that single outlet to two outlets and four other ports with a five-foot range. All of this is in one compact, space-saving solution.

While using this charging station, I have become a massive believer in its usefulness. I keep the Anker Prime 6-in-1 charging brick in my backpack at all times now, and I use it as my primary charging brick.

If I am at a coffee shop, I can now extend to a comfortable distance to plug in my devices when further away from the closest outlet. When I am at home trying to knock out some work at my kitchen table, I can extend my outlet in the corner of the dining room to my table and then plug in my cables from there so I can watch my kids simultaneously.

Even better, when I travel, I can plug this cable in just about anywhere, and now I can charge not only all of my devices but also the pump for my son’s air mattress, a lamp, or whatever else I may need. I have even used this at my desk in my home office to quickly turn one port into a multi-port to help with product shoots, product tests, and the like.

The built-in display can rotate between a total wattage interface, a power interface to show what wattage is being sent to each port, or even a voltage and current interface screen. This feature enables proper charging speeds and device status monitoring.

Should You Buy the Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station?

I used the Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station to charge my 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 to 50% in under 30 minutes, utilizing the MagSafe to USB-C Cable plugged into the far left USB-C port. But the best part about this charger, though, is that I can plug in my entire portable setup with a single plug without being tied to an outlet.

Since putting this in my backpack, I find myself reaching for it rather than my backup standard power brick nearly every time I need to plug into an outlet. The combination of USB-C fast charging, USB-A, two AC ports, the five-foot extension, and the slim form factor is too good to pass up.
