About MARG

Multiple Action Research Group (MARG) is a Delhi based non-government organization (NGO) working for over 38 years on legal awareness, legal assistance, building legal capacity for effective governance and policy development. MARG is looking for a Project Director.

Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Council and Chairperson of MARG, Director (Programme) is a key member of the leadership team, with responsibility for driving the formulation of programme strategy and guiding Project Coordinator and other Project implementation personals in the methodological concept of programmes, as well as the implementation and monitoring of projects and other key strategic initiatives. S/he will aid in resource mobilization for the organization, apart from building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders in the sector.
 
The position requires a leader who aspires to work on promoting rule of law to secure human rights, justice and democracy. S/he must have strong commitment to human rights, diversity, gender equality and right based approach. Good understanding of legal empowerment, access to justice, research and policy advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Strategy

  • Work closely with MARG’s project oversight committees, executive council, executive director and Chairperson to implement their suggestions and feedbacks to improve and upscale the projects.
  • Finalize strategies for each program, together with a action plan;
  • Lead the annual plans & budget processes of MARG.
  • Monitor and evaluate programme deliverables timely vis-à-vis the annual plans.
  • Guide research and policy analysis on different issues arising out of the work of MARG.
  • Contribute to the successful conclusion of the theory of change and results framework for all programmes/ projects.
  • Keep in touch of stakeholders’ priorities and interests, including the preference for projects vs. contracts.
  • Constantly update and add to strategic institutional and programme priorities by proactively tracking key sectoral developments through informal desk research, regular participation in discussion forums, high-level stakeholder meetings, etc.;

Programme Implementation

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to understand and cascade programmatic vision/ goals to MARG’s annual programme strategy with due consultation from executive council and executive director;
  • Develop MARG’s overall annual programme planning and implementation strategy with due consultation from executive council and executive director;
  • Initiative execution and expansion of programme implementation strategy to decipher new opportunities;
  • Interact with research experts and thought leaders to enhance the knowledge base and identify opportunities for programme activities;
  • Set out the framework and procedures for conceptualising, developing, and implementing programmes and projects for each programme vertical;
  • Ensure consistency in programme design and implementation within the focus areas, and consider alignment of projects with the organization’s programme implementation strategy.
  • Networking and Stakeholders Engagement
     
    Engage the wider community in seeking multi-stakeholder support for MARG’s programme mandate;
  • Represent the organization at allied forums and platforms to influence policies to promote rule of law and gender equality debates and deliberations;
  • Lead institutional activities relating to engagement with stakeholders;
  • Assist to build sustainable relationships with key stakeholders in the policy space to ensure support for policy formulation and execution;

Resource Mobilisation

  • Assist in resource mobilisation, engagement with international and national donor by planning and executing a comprehensive strategy for organisational development.
  • Lead project teams in document writing, timely budgetary implementation, timely report generation and review for content, quality and comprehensiveness. Also, guide Project Coordinators and other Project personals as needed;
  • Identify bilateral and multilateral organizations and foundations for collaborating opportunities in conjunction with relevant functions;

Eligibility

Qualification: Applicants should have a master’s degree or equivalent in Law/ Social Work/ Management or a related area from a premier university/ institute.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience, of which 3 should be on leadership aspirants roles in organisation with rights based approach/legal empowerment/public policy or related field; 
  • Experience in leading programme implementation and monitoring.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of rule of law, gender equality and rights based-related issues, action research, policy advocacy, good governance, policies, regulations, and programs at international, national, state and city level;
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills; include fluency in written and spoken English and Hindi, and in Microsoft Office.
  • We seek candidates with an analytical bent of mind who can help in translating raw data into valuable programmatic insights.
  • Candidates must be able to write and present well including research and project report writing skills
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork and collaborating skills;
  • Drive, commitment and ownership of the responsibilities;
  • Ability to travel extensively at the grass root, community, project areas at Gram Panchayats, Districts, States, national and international levels.
