Lok Sabha Election 2024 Date Out, Polls to be Held in 7 Phases

The Election Commission of India has announced the date for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on March 16, 2024. India will go to the polls on April 19th, 2024 to elect members of the 18th Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. All 543 constituencies across the country will have their elected representatives chosen through this general election.

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India will be carried out in multiple phases rather than a single day of nationwide polling. The electoral process has been divided into 7 different phases, which will be staggered over a period of time. The entire election cycle across all these phases is anticipated to be completed by June 6th.

The Lok Sabha, referred to as the House of the People, consists of 545 members in total. The vast majority, 543 of these members, are directly elected by the public, with each representing a single constituency. However, the remaining two members are not elected through this process. Instead, they are nominated by the President of India.

Lok Sabha Election 2024- Data and Facts

  • There are 97 crore (970 million) registered voters in India.
  • Over 10.5 lakh (1.05 million) polling stations will be set up across the country, manned by around 1.5 crore (15 million) personnel.
  • 55 lakh (5.5 million) Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be deployed for the elections.
  • Around 1.2 crore (12 million) voters will be exercising their franchise for the first time in these elections.
  • There are over 82 lakh (8.2 million) voters aged 80 years or above, including over 2 lakh (200,000) centenarians.
