Google announced several new Android features at MWC 2024 that caught our attention. Among them are AI-leveraged additions that give you more ways to interact with your Android devices. Here, we’ve shortlisted the biggest features that deserve your attention.

1 Annotate in Google Docs on Android

Undoubtedly, the most striking of the updates for Android users is the ability to annotate documents on Google Docs. You can scribble and scrawl on Google Docs to add comments, notes, and even doodles–whatever you please.

While this looks like it’s mainly focused on streamlining editing and making quick work of complicated documents, you could use it as a collaborative productivity tool.

2 Gemini AI in Google Messages

Google is bringing its ChatGPT rival, Gemini AI, to its messaging app for a machine-led fillip when crafting messages. 3 TalkBack for Lens in Google Maps

While Google Lens is already integrated into Google Maps, TalkBack with Lens in Maps can read back information on the places and establishments you find through your smartphone’s camera.

4 Android Auto’s AI Summaries

Thanks to AI integration, Android Auto can summarize long text messages you receive while driving so that you can keep your eyes on the road. It can also suggest replies and actions like sharing your ETA or starting a phone call, so responding to them is as easy as simply tapping on the screen.

5 AI-Generated Captions for Images

Google is leveraging AI yet again to make Lookout for Android better. It can now automatically generate descriptions of just about any image and read them out loud to assist people who are blind or visually impaired.

That’s not even all the features Google announced at MWC 2024. Per Google’s blog post, the company is also bringing Wallet passes to Wear OS watches and public transit directions to Google Maps on Wear OS. More importantly, the Fitbit app can now show stats from third-party apps and devices that support Android’s Health Connect platform.

Lastly, when listening to Spotify, the output switcher on the Android home screen will show Spotify Connect devices. This allows users to listen to their favorite music without interruptions as they switch between devices.
